51. tan
i notice my skin the most when i'm in korea. in general, when i'm among other koreans. among koreans, i am dark skinned. in san francisco, i am light skinned.
"you got really tan," the people i know in korea tell me. i guess i have. i had no idea. i had absolutely no idea.
it makes me feel all kind of ways to hear that. it used to make me feel bad. then it made me feel proud. then it made me feel odd.
tomorrow, maybe it will make me feel normal. tomorrow, at the war memorial museum at 1 pm in the republic of korea army shirt costume, maybe i will just feel the humidity beneath the beating sun on the last friday of june. just another me, only tanned on the outside. i'm playing a small part as a soldier in a scavenger hunt for an exchange program.
